The sound produced out of this is far better then what my TV would ever produce. The simulated surround sound is just that, simulated. If you have previously had any experience with true surround sound, then you will immediately be able to tell the difference. The bad thing is the this unit does not hook up to a reciever at all so i spent money on something i never needed. The bar hooks straight up to the subwoofer and the subwoofer hooks up to the TV. The only thing you have to buy is a digital optical cable (i think thats what it was-looks like a box on the end you plug in) that hooks up from the subwoofer to the TV. I did a test run at a Yamaha store and was amazed. The missus and I were watching a movie and could swear there were birds and such flying around in different parts of the house.
