It's strange that wireless has become so ubiquitous that one would by a router like this and not use the wireless capabilities at all. But that is exactly what we've done. We have 16 of these Time Capsules acting solely as remote backup drives. We've turned off all wireless and router capabilities. Each machine has a static ip address and we connect to it for our Time Machine backups. Overall, the hardware has been magnificent and the "Airport Utility" makes it quite easy to configure the device. ...more

I swapped out my old Apple Airport Extreme for this Time Capsule, left the network name and password unchanged -- and that was it. My desktop, and my wife's and my iPhones and MacBooks acted like nothing had changed. No settings to update or anything. Except a couple things had changed. First, our network got lots faster. However, I own two WD drives, this being one of them, and I haven't had any problems. I've owned each for months and use them regularly. I use this one via eSATA with my MacBook Pro for Time Machine. All has gone well. The design is very sleek, too. It seems like after a couple of years no matter what you had before you always outgrow your hard drive. I had put together a computer for home use a few years ago (P4) with a sata 1 motherboard. I was too cheap at the time to do Sata and did a 120gb eied drive instead. It worked OK but was getting full of pictures and I was experimenting with video, and my son started putting on 5 and 10 gb games.
